About Us
Two days after our son Steven was born, he was diagnosed with complete, long segment, Hirschsprungs Disease. This is a disease that affects the intestine and the ability to move and absorb food. After multiple operations and about nine months in the hospital, (and many more since) Steven ended up with nine centimeters of small intestine, no large. (We were told, he needed 40 cm to live.) The doctors had removed all of his large intestine/colon and most of the small intestine. The prognosis wasn’t good for him to survive long, but through many miracles he is home today and doing well at four years old.
While in the hospital we were deeply touched by so many who genuinely cared and were concerned for our son. We became dear friends with so many nurses, doctors and caregivers. As we would pull our son in a little wagon for outings down the halls, we would see the poor, suffering children with loved ones in the multiple rooms along our path, and our hearts would ache for them. There were so many having been born into little, imperfect bodies, so many with huge hurdles to overcome. So many facing the unknown, scared and alone.
My husband and I have since been trying to come up with some way that we could return to the hospital and especially to the young ones who are physically challenged, a type of symbol to show they are loved and prayed for by so many who may not even know them. After many times at the drawing board the inspiration came for our Little Piece of Comfort quilt.
The quilts are made out of the new “Minky” fabric, and the old stand-by that has been around for years, Satin. Minky is the new rave of today. For those who are not familiar with this fabric, the feel is similar to velvet; it is a super soft, snuggly, and warm material that you fall in love with on the first touch. These quilts are 100% machine washable and very durable. They are approximately 52 X 37 and perfect to snuggle up in for any age kid. For use in the hospitals, where sheets and blankets are so “unfriendly”, or at home when you just need a hug from your blanket, they work great.
100% of our profits will go toward the donation of these quilts to children who have a chronic disease. Though it is not a cure, this is one thing we can do for those with so many physical problems. These quilts can give love in and of themselves. Never have we seen a child of any age, 1-100, be able to put down one of these quilts without wanting to pick it up again. They are just so snuggly and soft…. and happy. It is an instant “I LOVE THIS!”
We hope to instill in the children’s lives a little warmth and love where they may seem so lost and picked on in the world. So many tears are shed in those cold hospital rooms of fear and of the unknown. We would hope with all our hearts that our quilts could bring some smiles, some hugs of hope, warmth and love.
